Puraran Beach in Baras, Catanduanes is a surfer’s paradise!
When we say surfing, it is either of these three, Siargao, Aurora and La Union automatically comes to mind however, those places are so yesterday better yet go to a [real] surfer’s paradise – Puraran Beach, Baras, Catanduanes.
I am no surfer but man I loved the sand, sun and waves. Puraran beach directly faces the Pacific ocean, so you are sure to catch some really good waves here. And the place has this “exclusive and chill vibe ” because it is not that crowded so you can find your own nook and surf some more.
Puraran Surf Beach is a favorite go to of locals and European travelers for surfing.
Don’t feel like surfing? Try skim boarding!
The first time I was here I didn’t have the chance to have surfing lessons but I could not resist the water so I took a dip and surprisingly the water was warm even though it was late October when we visited.
I decided to have surfing lessons on my second time on the island. There are a couple of surf schools there; I did go with Pacific Surfer’s Paradise.
One hour of surfing lessons would cost Php 350 (inclusive of surf board rental and instructor’s fee) [roughly US$7]. How cheap right?

#surfsup 🌊 🏄 but apparently my instructor was paying more attention to the camera than our #surflessons 😆 and I got a cut on my right palm but hey #nopainnogain https://generosepomelo.com/2018/03/05/how-to-get-to-catanduanes-a-travel-guide-to-the-happy-island/ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #longweekend #summer #summerfeels #summertime #travel #idyll #rustic #countryside #weekendvibes #travelgram #weekend #solotraveler #instatravel #instapic #itsmorefuninthephilippines #generosepomelo #GoCatanduanes #HappyIsland #surf #islandlife
My instructor was Edmond, also the guy who drove me to Binurong Point. He sounded so serious while giving me instructions but apparently not. I just needed to try surfing because I wanted to know if I can stand on the board. Well, I could so I will definitely have another lesson next time.
“Exclusive, chill and great waves = surfer’s paradise.
