Walking around Vigan is very pleasing to the eyes. Its streets boast intricate architecture plus so much history. Yet one’s curiosity isn’t the only thing that’s filled while in Vigan city, also your stomach! I’ve dedicated this post for your tummy needs while in Vigan!

A casual dining restaurant that serves local and regional dishes. This restaurant is also historic since its the house of Leona Florentino, the first poetess of the country. Cafe Leona is very popular among tourists. But the queue is worth waiting for their ”Sinigang na Malaga”.

Coffee break Vigan

Craving for a good ol’ coffee and chill? Check out this neighborhood cafe in the middle of Vigan city. You can choose from their two locations, one in Salcedo and another branch along Calle Crisologo. The vibe is so cozy perfect for hot/cold brew. Plus pasta, sandwiches and sweets.

”It ain’t Vigan without empanada.” – is the mantra of this specialty restaurant. Championing the empanada dough/crust with their secret mix of rice flour. It’s crispy yet soft with generous filling. They also serve okoy as big as a plate. Their new location is so artsy and two houses away from the original.

While in #Vigan, my feed was peppered with #StreetFoodNetflix spoilers. The best part was the savory comment/reply section.🤣 So I had to binge watch it asap. Noticed that the series didn’t tackle street food of each country as a whole but made it about the city/region. Then for the Philippine episode, well, I haven’t been to Cebu and know nothing about ”#Nilarang Bakasi” (the main dish) but as per locals, it’s a good representation of Cebu’s street food scene. Now, if the episode was done in Vigan City, the main dish would PROBABLY be ”#Sinanglao.” It’s beef tendon and innards stew with a hint of beef bile which locals eat for breakfast. Plus empanada, okoy, bagnet and longganisa. #eatsmorefuninthephilippines

Vigan First Sinanglaoan

If eating like a local is your goal, this is the place to be. Local folks line up even before this hole-in-the-wall restaurant opens. Their specialty? Sinanglao/sinanglaw, a beef tendon and innards stew with a hint of beef bile. The broth itself is rich and flavorful. Such a hearty meal any time of the day!
